Project Details
Live Primary Edge Design/Build
Intuva has a long history of working closely with a large retailer-owned cooperative. For this particular project, we focused on a data center renovation to address the increased risk and cost associated with aging (and capacity-constrained) support infrastructure. The primary data center was to remain operational throughout upgrades and renovations
Situation
20-year-old primary stand-alone data center to remain operational through upgrade and renovations
Aging & capacity-constrained supporting infrastructure
Operating at the power and cooling limits of existing supporting infrastructure
Resolution
Site alternatives ruled out due to costs and desire to operate own data center
Phased construction tackled hardest issues first, sequentially building for next phases
Complete replacement of all critical and emergency power systems
Efficiency improved +20% and reliability increased from Tier II toTier III w/Tier IV attributes
Replacement of legacy cooling with higher-efficiency solutions
Layout the data center overall RLU density to allow the overall footprint to shrink 40%
Rebuild the supporting NOC and office space around the data center (80,000 sq ft)
Highlights
Increased overall data center reliability from a Tier II to a Tier III with Tier IV attributes
Improved power usage by ~20%
Rebuilt the supporting NOC (80,000 sf) and surrounding office space
Replaced legacy cooling with higher efficiency solutions
Before and After
Before & after upgrading edge data center
