In an Upsite Technologies article, Drew Robb, writing and editing consultant and contractor highlighted how power companies in the United States have had it relatively easy for the past couple of decades, but now are caught by surprise by the AI surge. The article goes on to articulate that data center professional are lining up to make it known that the U.S. will be facing an energy shortfall over the next decade and worse is ill prepared to react quickly enough to arrest the problem.

In Bristol, CT, INTUVA and Renew Developers are building a small proof-of-concept data center with 3 MW capacity for AI/HPC workloads, using hybrid liquid and air-cooling. It primarily uses natural gas through redundant linear generators, with the electric utility as potential backup.
Another CT site, INTUVA and Renew have 23 MW of natural gas-powered linear generators approved, with diesel standby generators providing backup power. Finally, INTUVA and Sustany Capital are co-developing a 1,200 MW solar-powered microgrid in the southwestern U.S., serving a large data center campus.
